Farm housesitting 12 – 20 May ( stay longer) Hondon Valley in ALICANTE SPAIN
THE HOUSESIT –
I live on a farm with stables and a swimming pool, in a beautiful part of Alicante. All of the animals here are rescued except the horses. The dogs come from all over Spain. This property is in the area called Solana there is access directly up to the mountain tracks offering many nice walks. We need someone to feed and care for the animals when I go away.
I moved to Spain in 2009 from Cornwall UK and brought 6 horses, 3 Border Collies and a cat with me. I came here on my own and still live on my own with the animals. The routines are manageable.

Water is piped to all paddocks. Paddocks are post and rail and electric fenced.
THE LOCATION –
Hondon de las Nieves is a small town in the Hondon Valley.
It is about half hour drive from Alicante airport.
25 mins from Elche where there are many big shops.
45 mins from the beaches of Alicante, La Marina and Guardamar.
In Hondon de las Nieves we have a market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There is a large Bodega .. many restaurants .. few shops.. a Supermarket.. Butcher shops.. a cultural centre .. optician.. Dr Surgery.. Vet.. Chemist .. fuel station.. Garage for car maintenance.. Town Hall and local Police Station. … and more.
Its a thriving town with very friendly people.. many British, Dutch, Belgians, amongst the local Spanish residents.
Fiestas happen mostly in August where there is a Medieval market.. and spectacular Fire fiesta.
Religious parades still happen throughout the year. All info can be obtained from the Town Hall.
Other local villages and towns also have many fiestas during the year.
The local area is becoming very agricultural many with Olive groves.. The almond trees that create masses of beautiful blossoms from February into the spring. Many Fig trees, pear, and of course an abundance of Grapes.. for wine and for the table.
Oranges, lemons and pomegranates are also grown locally along with veg – Onions, artichokes, lettuce and broccoli. Many others as the seasons change and as they rotate the crops.
MY PROPERTY –
This is a 3 (was 4) bedroom house with a self contained Casita that can sleep 3. This also has access to the pool.
The house has a lounge with a log burner and calor heater, (no central heating).. air con in lounge only.. dining room, bathroom, en suit shower room, kitchen and an outside kitchen with loo.
Water is heated by propane gas boiler. Cooker is also gas. There is internet and mains electricity. Ceiling fans are throughout the house. There is no alarm system only the 4 legged variety.
There is no satellite dish here just a fire stick for the TV. (Netflix is all I need) DVD and video as well.
There is a kidney shape pool of medium size situated in a walled private area.
The plot is 16,300 m2… the garden is large and down to gravel with various trees and shrubs.
To the rear of the house are 2 paddocks…. to the side are the dog pens and play area for the dogs with a wooden bunkhouse within that area.
The Horse area is separated by a chainlink fence that also keeps the dogs from leaving the ‘house’ area.
There is a hay barn that also houses the shavings for the bedding, feed room, 10 stables, a sand school, 2 horse pens and 5 paddocks. All paddocks are separated with a double fence.
8 of the stables are used for the horses with one for the 4 Collies to sleep in and another for equipment.
The property does not flood in the heavy rain .. water drains out of the drive as it rains with it all gone by the following day.
