Summer housesit in Dorchester on Thames nr Oxford UK 27 July – 18 August 2 cats
We live in the charming Thames side village of Dorchester in Oxfordshire only 8 miles from Oxford city centre. The buses are infrequent but available from the centre of the village and on the bypass nearby, the walk to this bustop is approx half a mile from the house. From our property you can walk to a couple of traditional coaching inns, and a historic pub.
The village is well preserved and often used for the filming episodes of Midsomer Murders, Miss Marple, Tom Brown’s School Day and other TV period pieces. There is a historic tea room, a museum, and the famous Dorchester Abbey in the centre of the village.
Our cats are both one year old, they’re called Patsy and Eddie after a couple of favourite tv characters. They’re healthy cats, found as rescues from Southampton animal sanctuary. We will document feeding routines in the morning and evening, and all their food will be provided.
Our home is a 60’s style, comfortable family home with three bedrooms; two bedrooms could be made available for housesitters. We would prefer either a couple or a single housesitters, as our home is not child friendly. We have a large pond which may be a risk for unattended children.
For basic shopping, in 5 minutes you can walk to the Coop the village shop and the tea rooms. They are very close.
We have a working studio on the side of the house, my husband is a mixed media theatre maker, with models on show. His work is on show in the South Oxford Arts week at the end of May each year.
If you are visiting the area for the first time there is a great deal you can see and do while you are here. The village itself has many points of attraction to anyone interested in history, culture and all things English, as it is well preserved in architecture and character. The nearby city of Oxford offers many public spaces, the Botanical Gardens, Christ Church Meadow and hours of walking in and out of college our of University term times. We’d be happy to offer you tips and suggestions ahead of your arrival for our favourite places to visit, our favourite pubs and restaurants locally. Please do get in touch.
