Description

We live in a semi-detached lovely house with a large back garden with small patio and sweet front garden with a couple of raised beds and a tiny pond in the friendly village of Barcombe. The house is located up a small twitten (passageway) and we are the first house on the right. This means there is no traffic immediately outside the house but that you do have to carry shopping from your car to the house. If you walk further up the twitten you come out onto lovely open fields with a view to the downs. You can see the Glyndebourne windmill from this field and there is a beautiful wood a few minutes from the house.

The guest bedroom (where you would sleep) is on the ground floor and has a wetroom next to it. There is a bathroom upstairs with a bath, should you be a bath person. You would also be using the kitchen (with a table in it for eating), sitting room (cool in the summer) and sun room, which looks out on the garden and also has a table in it for eating whenever you feel like it.

We are a three minute walk from Barcombe village centre , with the Royal Oak public house and a really friendly village shop (open basically 7am-7pm every day with earlier closing on Sundays). The village also has a village hall and sports field with cricket/football grounds, bowls green and tennis courts. Cooksbridge Railway Station is approximately 2 miles with services to London Victoria (1 hour) and London Bridge (90 mins). The historic county town of Lewes is 4 miles away with its vast array of shopping facilities including many independent shops and 3 supermarkets (Tesco, Waitrose and Aldi), cafes and restaurants and the excellent Depot Cinema (independent cinema with 3 screens and cafe etc). We are 8 miles away from Brighton.

There are many beautiful walks around Barcombe and you can use our ordnance survey maps to help plan your trips. Locally there are hills, streams, rivers, woods, farms and views galore, and the sea is about 12 miles away. You can walk up Seaford Head, where you can also swim, or visit Cuckmere Haven to canoe or wander along the banks of the stunning ox-bow river. You can buy fresh fish in Newhaven, visit Bexhill-on-Sea and the Delaware Pavilion, and spend a day in Winchelsea and Rye or Hastings, not to mention nearby Sheffield Park and others National Trust properties. You could even go to Brighton! The list is endless. But just being here is lovely too – especially when petrol is so pricey!

Property Type: House (detached / semi-detached)
Responsibilities: We need you to look after our boys, Stanley and Oliver. They are brothers, sixteen-year-old Siamese Crosses, and doing really well for their age. However, Oliver is diabetic and requires a subcutaeous insulin injection twice a day at approximately 7 am and 7 pm. He is amazingly good about this, may well alert you to the fact that he needs it, and get into the right place and position to have it given to him. That could be because he associates it with being given Dreamies! Stanley cashes in on this, too, after every injection they both have 10 Dreamies each... It's not difficult, but it must be done on time 12 hours apart each day. We will train you on this, which is why the dates advertised build in a day of training together before we leave. We could build in another day if you felt you needed two days getting used to this. They are primarily indoor cats and have a litter tray which usually needs changing each day. They also need feeding twice a day and biscuits topping up for each day and night, as Oliver regulates his diabetes by grazing. They both drink a lot and need all water bowls around the house checking regularly. Stanley has an early stages renal issue so he drinks even more than Oliver. They can be quite shy, owner-centric cats, but they are incredibly loving and cuddly, and if you spend time on them your relationship will build quickly and you will have a brilliant time together! We will also need you to look after our house plants and water the garden if it's dry.
Points of interest: Hiking Trails
Things to know: You would probably need to have a car. It's possible we may be able to insure you for our car (if you have a clean licence that can be used in the UK?) but you would need to take us & collect us from the rail station so we can get away!
