Topical housesitting 16 April – 19 June nr Spanish Lookout in BELIZE
– – – HOUSESIT
Home presence very much valued includes care of 3 cats and 2 dogs, one of whom is also a bona-fide guard dog (Fila Brasiliero), that has to accustom himself with the new sitter… but it will all work out 🙂
Ranch is 60 acres on the northern edge of Spanish Lookout. Has 10 horses, 12 donkeys and a mule, but all are taken care of by a dedicated worker. Other workers visit to cut grass, check solar (yes, it’s fully off grid with a good system) and clean the house.
Owners are experienced with having house sitters and have comprehensive notes and guidance.
Good Wifi and very comfortable home.
Climate out here is good as openness of property allows breezes.
Very peaceful, spacious and rural sit.
Use of car possible for trips into town for supplies etc.
Note: Belize only gives out 1 month tourist visas, but those can be extended a month at a time pretty simply for BZ$50.
The most important thing is that you are happy with large dogs and don’t mind our rural situation. We have wifi on the property so you have internet access.
– – – LOCATION
Our home is located near Selena, about two miles outside the farming community of Spanish Lookout in the Caribbean country of Belize. In the community, there is are stores and a produce market. There is a bus service in and out of there, and we have a small car for the use of the housesitter. The house does sit about a half mile from the road so fairly rural.
– – – OUR PETS
We have 2 Dogs: Toby, 4 year old Fila Brasiliero, neutered male. VERY protective. Must be carefully managed; Moana, 2 year old Lab mix, spayed female. Very alert and playful and active. Loves to go for a swim in the pond.
We also have 3 Cats: Gidget, 15 year old, spayed female who stays indoors, mostly upstairs, because she is not smart enough to be let out on her own.; Tinker, 4 year old, neutered male, endlessly entertaining; Pickles, 5 year old, spayed female. Not interested in being friendly, but she’s a great hunter.
– – – OTHER ANIMALS – Not part of the sitter’s duties
Equines: 10 horses, 12 donkeys and a mule. Not technically part of the “sit” as we have a barn worker that will take care of them.
Bats: Not technically “pets”, but we do love and appreciate them and make sure they are not disturbed.
Howler Monkeys and a huge variety of birds live on our property — nothing to maintain, but they can be very entertaining!
– – – THE HOUSE
The house is a two story on stilts, wooden home. It needs regular cleaning, as this is Belize and things mold. There are also bugs. The property is 60 acres, about half of it cleared for pasture and the other half still jungle. Along a small creek bordering the property. Great bird and bug (!) watching. The critters take care of the pastures, the workers take care of the jungle, and we have a lawn service that comes every couple of weeks to mow the yard. There ARE some plants that need watering on the porch so a little light gardening is required as well as a little light houseswork to keep the house well maintained. We do have workers to come in and do “proper” cleaning of the house each week.
– – – LOTS TO DO IN BELIZE
If you love beaches, natural landscapes, adventure and discovery there is lots to see and do in Belize. We have Mayan ruins, a butterfly farm, waterfalls… Here is the link to the top 15 things to do in Belize https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attractions-g291959-Activities-Belize.html We do ask that you not be away from the house all day every day … as the dogs do need company. 😉
